Beloved

During Saturday afternoon's game, Tim McCarver referred to Trot Nixon as the most beloved player in Red Sox Nation.

Hey, Tim, you doddering, senile, old goat -- I'd like to introduce you to someone.

Hey, nice suit jacket, McCarver, but won't your wife notice the hole in the drapes?

WHAT? That's unbelievably stupid, even for Tim. Here is a probably incomplete list of players that Sox fans "love" in significant excess of whatever they feel for Trot, who is a gamer but ultimately not much of an icon: Papi, Manny, Wakefield, Tek, Papelbon, Youkilis, and Schilling. Maybe even Lowell, Timlin and Mirabelli. By June of next year, the fans will "love" Wily Mo more than they ever did Nixon.
How could he say something that ridiculous without a producer shooting him with a poisoned dart?

Trot is up there..the original dirt dog. And a great defensive right fielder...not an easy space to patrol.
