G135: Red Sox 2, Blue Jays 1

Kyle Synder pitched the game of his life (7-2-0-2-8, 94), Mike Lowell hit another home run, the eventual winning run scored on a Ted Lilly balk, Bengie Molina was thrown out trying to advance to third on a fly ball to right (snuffing out a Toronto rally in the 8th) and the trio of Jonathan Papelbon, Craig Breslow and Mike Timlin quieted the Jays (eventually) in the ninth.

Papelbon started the inning, but after allowing two singles and a force play, he made a wild pickoff throw to second base, then left the game holding his right shoulder. He was also stretching out his neck after a few earlier pitches, so maybe it's just a twinge/pinched nerve of some sort. ... This injury shit is surreal.

Breslow came with a 2-2 count on Lyle Overbay, and struck him out. Timlin allowed an infield single to Alex Rios that brought in one run, but he got Molina on a grounder to short to save the victory.

It looks like we'll gain a game in the wild card. Now only 5.5 games back, with three games against the White Sox next week.

I hope Lester gets ok, and it doesn't turn out to be the big C.

Enlarged lymph nodes could indicate many different things. It could be serious without being cancer - or it could be not very serious.

Lester positive for lymphoma...a "treatable" cancer. See my blog

I just saw here on JoS. Scary stuff - and increasingly common in our toxic world.

Very treatable indeed.

And as a total o non sequitur...Snyder`s mowing down the Jays after six.

I'm not necessarily saying I'm a good luck charm, but the Sox are 13-2 in the games I've been to this season. That's pretty remarkable.

I'm saying this only because the thought of Lester is just too painful and cruel to me right now. May he recover in the quickest possible time, so he can complete all his goals in life.

We need to start a fund to enable you to see every remaining game this season. $$$

Tremendous outing last night by Snyder, tempered by the news that in the last 48 hours....

- Wells traded to SD...
- Tavarez inserted as starter...
- Lester goes down with the big "C"...
- Pap's wing gives out last night in the 9th...
- Schill to miss next start due to injury...
- BOS reaches waiver deal with TOR for (Sox Killer) Ted Lilly, but the teams can't come to terms on player(s) to be sent in return...

The good news just keeps on coming. Ladies and gentlemen, now playing the role of Jason Johnson will be Kevin Jarvis, whom Theo deftly plucked from Uncle Jed's DFA salvage yard in ARI. Jarvis gets the rock today with his 0-1 / 11.91 ERA baggage from the NL in tow.

What next, swarms of locusts over Fenway? I can't believe that we're only 5.5 games out of the Wild card, but with a team that increasingly resembles the Bad News Bears. Look for Chico's Bail Bonds to replace W.B. Mason as the lead Sox sponsor.
