Schadenfreude 11 (A Continuing Series)

Kinda dull. I expected more.

Wow! I glossed Boston fans with this Teutonic term years ago. I'm so pleased to see some of you own up to it. Although that would make me guilty of schadenfreude!

What the heck--machts nichts. . .. I'll just meditate on a random number to return to serenity, 26 looks like good one.

As enjoyable as it would be to see the Yankees lose every one of their remaining games this season, what might actually be more fun is watching the Sox's East lead drop to 6 or 7 -- and all the MFY fans getting excited about some sort of comeback -- then have it balloon back up to 9 or 10.

Getting some sliver of (false) hope, blowing it all out of proportion, like the race is supposedly a close one -- and seeing that hope dashed again and again. And again.

When Jose Canseco wrote "Juiced" in 2005, he brought the issue of steroids in Major League Baseball to the forefront. Now, Canseco has another book due this fall and he promises some juicy info on Alex Rodriguez.

And we glossed you with the worst postseason collapse in history...

That's the worst collapse in sports history, by the way, not only baseball history.

glossed

Is that like lip gloss? Slappy's blue lip gloss?

Try meditating on 2000. Or maybe 3-0. Or 9.0.

Juke, just look at the comment you've written. Is it really such a strange thought that we (or fans of any other team) would happily root for the Yanks to lose? Or that we'd proud to "admit" it? I know I always have benn.

You yell "1918" at us. When we win it all, in such a manner where any other team's fans would be completely humbled and say "You did it, sometimes I just have to tip my cap to the other side," you break out the total number of championships. And when some team passes yours in that grand total, many years down the line, well, let's just say I'm sure you've already got the T-shirts printed up that claim why your team is STILL the best.

If Yankee fans don't shut up when their team is 9 out, 7 years from a championship when the Red Sox, yes, it actually is true, are 3 from one, they're never going to. But don't ever change. That's why we love you so much.

MFY - Years without WS title:

1903-1922: 20 years
1979-1995: 17 years
1963-1976: 14 years
2001-2006: 6 years and counting

Between 1963 and 1995 -- a span of 33 years -- the Yankees won only two World Series titles. Dynasty, my ass.

And did you think of that all by yourself? Wow! You must be really smart.

Heh. I posted my sarcastic comment before I read everyone else's responses. Nice work, Joy Nation.

Honestly, in my wildest imagination, I cannot conceive of visiting the blog of an opposing team to write such drivel.

I realize this speaks of my lack of imagination. Or my maturity. One of those.

Yes it is. What I found annoying is that although they didn't win much -- those 2 titles came in consecutive years -- their fans were still as arrogant as ever. You'd think they won all the time, but the truth is a long way away from that.

As Jere can tell you, they still act like they have won a few titles since 2001.

(It appears that they have collectively surpressed all knowledge of 2004 as though it was a horrific memory of abuse as a child.)

Thats how I felt in '03 which made '04 that much sweeter...Only the Red Sox can make losing gratifying......

Nothing wrong with looking things up. I still don't know what "glossed" means in that loser's sentence, but I'm not looking it up.
