G123: Red Sox 10, Angels 5

The runs are coming in bunches for the Sox in this series.

Down 5-0 in the fifth, Boston gets six in the fifth (four on a long grand slam from Ortiz) and four more in the eighth.

After Schilling (6-8-5-0-3, 85), it was White Flag, Jeemer and Snuffer (retiring nine of 10 batters).

***

Jered Weaver (3.85, 111 ERA+) / Curt Schilling (4.06, 111 ERA+)

Schilling lost to Weaver and the Angels 4-2 on August 6, in his first start since coming off the disabled list. In six innings against the Orioles (August 12), Schilling did not record a strikeout. In his last start, Weaver held the Twins to five hits and two earned runs in 7.1 innings.

It's likely that Bobby Kielty will be called up (and Jacoby Ellsbury sent down) before tonight's game.

Also: Fat Billy and the Brownshirts (5 GB) face Detroit's Chad Durbin at 4 PM.

bennymac said...

yo. i'm sorry, i know comments are supposed to be more than "yo" but that's all i got right now.

Ofer said...

If I'm not mistaken (apparently i have a tendency to start comments like that), the guy you're talking about is Kapstein (Jeremy?), the former super-agent and current FO guy.

bennymac said...

does it drive anybody else nuts that lugo doesn't take a practice swing in the box? he just kind of holds the bat there? thome and howard have that "hold the bat still" thing going, but they look cool doing it.

laura k said...

i'm here off and on.

is there a thread going on a threadsox? is it officially open for business yet?

laura k said...

thome never looked cool. bleh.

Ofer said...

He was also once rumored to be one of Theo's possible replacements, during ^that^ offseason.

laura k said...

L was correct - yes

chug-a-lug bitches - no

bennymac said...

ahh...thanks for the positive id on the man behind home plate. i can now sleep at night.

allan said...

he's also got the ichiro adjust-the-sleeve move.

yo = okay for game posts.

allan said...

there's also somebody named drinkwater, i think -- but that might be jere's name for him.

nixon33 said...

i hate how he always backs out and calls time as the pitcher is ready to throw...one of many reasons i hate lugo

laura k said...

now there's a good reason to hate someone :)

bennymac said...

the guy behind the plate is gone! he's probably checking these posts. let's see if he makes an appearance.

allan said...

Only 85 for Curt?

Fasten your seat belts for White Flag.

laura k said...

i swear i want to see gagne tonight.

i know i'm crazy, and i know he won't be in. but i do.

allan said...

I was thinking Tito would not use him tonight, but go to him as usual on the road -- then I remembered today is Saturday and we have two games until Tampa.

Ofer said...

I thought I wanted to see Gagne yesterday. I was proven to be wrong.

what is the joke between orsillo and remy with don liking the mariners?

allan said...

it's a fairly new one. don goes home from fenway and watches west coast games. not sure why it's seattle, though. does rene russo figure into this?

laura k said...

don watches west coast games when he gets home. he started finding a lot of mariner games on, and then (i think kind of by accident) started following the team, grew to like it.

an excuse for jerry to rag on him, i think.

I heart Mike Timlin

Ofer said...

Where those last two fly outs as loud as they look on Gameday? Or just routine?

laura k said...

"not sure why it's seattle, though."

i think it was b/c they happened to be home a lot when the sox were home, so they were on when don came home. just coincidence i think.

renee russo has to do with the dodgers.

Ofer said...

Were...

laura k said...

why do i know these things?

laura k said...

i heart mike timlin without the r and the letters rearranged.

allan said...

Jeemer.

allan said...

ococ with the sleehw.

allan said...

Snuffer is up.

laura k said...

ococ!! x 5

laura k said...

i'm outta here, gotta watch the rest of this thing w/ out the typing.

5 games! (i was right about 6 runs, i'll be right about 5 ga)

Ofer said...

So, how about a 4K, 1HR game?

nixon33 said...

i wonder how many times thats happened this year: they intentionally walk papi to pitch to manny?
seems like a lot....crazy

laura k said...

being makes them pay!

nixon33 said...

if they blow this open might we see gagne?
(dont attack me for asking!)

allan said...

Manny!

What's with NESN going to WS-Game 7-nervous-fans-cam?

allan said...

I think god is pissed at Frod and his post-game mound antics.

Bot was up -- did he sit down?

allan said...

I think Jones is conducting some sort of experiment -- whether an MLB player can get laid no matter what his facial hair looks like. ... He might have pushed it too far with the current look, though.

nixon33 said...

hahahahahahahahah awesome redsock!

allan said...

Bot still up.

allan said...

Umlauts - You can't fuck with 'em.

bennymac said...

what's with big bird and his yellow sweater?

laura k said...

baseball is so crazy

when i got home from work tonight it was 4-0 then 2 seconds later 5-0

nixon33 said...

why would they not save pap for tomorrow?

allan said...

Look at those Red Sox! Terrified of blowing another game. Up by 5 runs, but they're bringing in their closer. (/typical mfy fan)

allan said...

he was up already - use him rather than wasting him an dgetting another arm up.

nixon33 said...

true. its just so crazy, not to use him last might, but we use him tonight, and yesterday morning

allan said...

he didn't work last night because he had pitched the night before that. that's why dmmer was out there, right?

allan said...

Dirty Water.

5 GA.

bennymac said...

fun game. thanks for letting me hang out.

nixon33 said...

GOOD FUCKING WIN

Joe Grav said...

Tonight, I was at the game, to answer a question here. (and it was fun!)

To answer the other question: Behind the plate, toward the left, the Robert Redford/Jerry Springer looking guy is Dennis Drinkwater, the head of Giant Glass. He's a die-hard Sox fan snd die-hard NY football Giants fan, which, I assume, is why he named it Giant Glass and made blue its main color.

A few seats to the right is Jeremy Kapstein, who, ironically, if all goes well, I'll meet tomorrow. Details later.

Great game. Great game. Pics and a writeup probably coming across the plate tomorrow. Got a shot of ortiz's GS swing which i'll upload tonight.

L - sox bar wouldve been nice to know of for tonights game...ive never seen so many yankees shits in my life today! (shits was not a typo...i really meant that)

was only in manhattan for a few hours though - by the time we got down there and did a few touristy things and ate dinner it was already like 11-12. definately need to go back for a few days. such a crazy busy city!

i was going to buy a "Yankees Stadium" (with an arrow) sign at some tourist store tonight, so i could put it beside my toilet, however i didnt think it was a justified expenditure.

and re: me emailing that guy - i edited/cleaned up a bit of the original comment i posted on here, in a small attempt to make it less insulting, but what can ya do. we live in a day where if you dont agree with someone elses views its an insult :P

Great pic, chris!

laura k said...

Tim, sounds like a fun and crazy couple of hours. Anytime someone tells me they were in NYC, I miss my old town.

however i didnt think it was a justified expenditure

:)

we live in a day where if you dont agree with someone elses views its an insult

True, that.

laura k said...

Chris, great pic! (Great seats!)

Patriots Film said...

Thanks guys. Yep- seats are awesome, once every other year I go with the dad and one of his clients- what a deal! Unfortunately my lens has had some calibration issues so the pics weren't as sharp as they could be, and the third base coaches had a knack for standing right in view of the batter, haha... but that was the least important part of the night!

More pics this afternoon!
