WS Ball: Papelbon's Dog Ate It?

After Jonathan Papelbon struck out Seth Smith to clinch the 2007 World Series title, Jason Varitek pocketed the baseball, then gave it to the pitcher.

Later, Papelbon's agent said the Bot did not have the ball. No one cared all that much -- Theo Epstein: "I hope that's a recurring problem for us" -- but the mystery may have been solved. Papelbon:
"My dog ate it. ... He plays with baseballs like they are his toys. His name is Boss. He jumped up one day on the counter and snatched it. He likes rawhide. He tore that thing to pieces. Nobody knows that. I'll keep what's left of it."
This could be true. Who knows?

The newspaper gets two thumbs down for failing to tell us what kind of dog Boss is or print a picture.

If not Boss, maybe this guy ate it:

From an MLB forum, someone wrote this, when describing their time in Colorado for Game 1 or 2:

"Someone had actually brought Papelbon's dog, a Boston Terrier out of his car and walked him a little way from where I was standing.
His wife then got the dog and got in the car and left. No dance from the dog though!!"

Can't confirm, of course, as the only player's dog I can confirm is Peralta's, but that might be all we know. At least for now. I'm sure the next step for the media is the follow-up dog story, complete with interview with Boss himself.

His dog is a Boston Terrier named "Boston" - I guess "Boss" is his nickname.
