G5: Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 3

Red Sox - 000 000 300 - 3 4 0
Blue Jays - 000 003 21x - 6 10 0
I didn't watch this one. The Fiery One hit a three-run dong to tie the game in the seventh, but the bullpen faltered. Q: Why didn't MDC start the 7th?

Tampa Bay beat the Yankees 13-4 in the Bronx. The Devil Rays' 7-run eighth inning must have emptied out the place.

***

Tim Wakefield (100 ERA+ in 2007) / Shawn Marcum (108 ERA+ in 2007)

Lineup (from comments):
Pedroia, 2B
Youkilis, 1B
Ortiz, DH
Ramirez, LF
Lowell, 3B
Drew, RF
Lugo, SS
Ellsbury, CF
Cash, C
Skydome opener. It's been a rainy day in Toe-ron-to, so the roof will be closed.

Jere will be calling the game and following comments here. If you don't get NESN, I strongly urge you to go with GedMan.

Heh. you said 'canuck dong.'

It has a good ring to it.

9Casey is happy about his TV. Or internet or something. What is that?

Typical early season Wake game, huh? No support. If he loses, they'll say it's because he misses Mirabelli.

Not if they don't score a run unless in some bizzaro world Belli was going deep twice ..........

Amy said...

9casey, talk to Joe Grav. He said he couldnt get NESN plus in CT. Not sure what that means, but that's what he said.

9casey said...

Its TV and its friggin awesome.....

s1c said...

Frag, they had him if FY could have gotten the tag down. Fragging midget.

Joe Grav said...

9c, the MA equivalent to what you've got is Verizon Fios, which is sweeeeet + way better than crappy Comcast, but it's not available at my parents' house since the city of Revere doesn't like competition and prefers to let Comcast provide a garbage product at whatever price they want to charge. And at college, we get the 30-40ish channels they give us, which is fine by me since they have the major sports channels.

laura k said...

Wow. Cool. I can't imagine awesome and TV in the same sentence.

Joe Grav said...

1-0 BRUINS!!!!!!

Amy said...

Do we have anyone up in the bullpen???

Rob said...

GOAL BRUINS!!!!

I hear ya......I felt like a mope just typin it...........But Comacast tried to fight At&t and lost now I have this bundle package and I save like 70 bucks month......God Bless Competition..

laura k said...

Ugh. WTF was that?

Amy said...

See it. Aarsdma. Not sure I spelled that correctly.
Shit--they couldn't catch that. Yikes.

Damn white flags. I just don't get the white flags.

s1c said...

Well, that play sucked freaking bilge water.

allan said...

Maybe I'll just go back to work. :<(

Joe Grav said...

Comcast is evil. They have really good customer service, I'll give 'em that- but that's about it.

s1c said...

Well this inning has became a lot ugly (Remdawg said little).

Amy said...

Wakefield getting a bit out of control here.

Now would Belli have gotten that one?

Joe Grav said...

2-0 now? :(

Joe ......no disrespect. But I speak english and I expect my customer service people to speak as well.....Comcast has no clue never had one....

laura k said...

I was getting ready to type a big fat "that's my boy"... but not. Woulda been some kind of great catch.

Amy said...

OMG He dropped the ball??

Time for a pitching change. Time to change the vibe out there.

How long do you have to hold the ball for it to be caught?

Joe Grav said...

Meh, I usually do the 24/7 online chat when I need help from Comcast, which is generally very quick/good.

Amy said...

I am definitely not liking this half inning.

s1c said...

Well, they lucked out on those last two plays. Jays should be up 3-0.

laura k said...

Bases juiced for the rodent. He should be pretty easy to contain.

laura k said...

It is 3-0.

Amy said...

Phew, DP.

Our bats better wake up now also.

allan said...

frogs on the pond.

s1c said...

Finally!!!!!

allan said...

good work zauny!

laura k said...

Sorry, my dogs need me and Allan is very busy. Hang on for a few.

Joe Grav said...

yay dogs.

s1c said...

Meant to say more than 3-0. Oh, still early in the season you know.

Jere said...

THis is ironic. Joy's request for an announced game effectively takes me out of the game thread and he doesn't get to listen anyway....

allan said...

i'm eating food. i can mod.

allan said...

jere, i guess the browser her won't be able to tune in to you from work at all.

Amy said...

First man on base for us in a long time. We need Manny to be Manny.

Joe Grav said...

Not a good day at the plate so far for the Lads.

laura k said...

i'm back. did allan step in?

laura k said...

Bah, got back just in time to see Cy Marcum K Manny.

s1c said...

Fragging Jays, come on Doctor.

Amy said...

Allan stepped in while eating.

Gee, this guy is killing us. Someone has to break the rhythm.

Amy said...

OK, two on, let's see if Drew can pull some of post-season hitting

laura k said...

"yay dogs"

they are the light of my life

Joe Grav said...

I love dogs, but I am dangerously allergic. It's a terrible combo.

Amy said...

DREW DID IT!!

Joe Grav said...

In play, run(s)!

andy said...

we knew he would be hot

Joe Grav said...

OH SNAP!!! DONG! I like gametracker sometimes :P WOOOO

Amy said...

Game tied. A new game begins.

I think we will like Drew this year. And Lugo. I just am feeling it.

Joe Grav said...

and just like that everything changes. :)

laura k said...

Aw Joe, that sucks. I am allergic to cats, it can be awful. If I were allergic to dogs, I'd be heartbroken.

Joe Grav said...

I'm allergic to cats, too. I don't like them as much, although my gf's cats are really sweet and don't try to scratch me the way most cats do.

Amy said...

My brother developed allergies when we were growing up. My parents almost gave him away, but never considered giving up our pets. They managed to create a safe zone for him, and he still would go and pet the dog and cats. My poor brother loves animals and cannot live with them. It is so sad.

Rob said...

1-0 B's after 2 periods. 4-2 Florida. So, if the scores stay the same, the Bruins are in.

-------

I was watching the hockey game, switched the Sox, saw Drew up, and he took a very weak wave. I really thought he was going to hit a dong in that AB. So I turned it back to the B's, and a minute later, back to the Sox.

Me: Yeeeeeeeaaahhhh!! He did it!

Joe Grav said...

I read in the Globe last year that they developed hypoallergenic cats.

I'm not sure how I feel about that, but that's a great solution for people in that situation.

Strike him out Aaaaaaaards!

s1c said...

Thanks to the cats and the Dogs the in-laws don't come over much. That is why I like pets!!!

Rob said...

Aardsma's going to have to throw some softies to get Eckstein out.

And he doesn't.

Amy said...

Eckstein has to run like crazy on a walk. Very gritty.

laura k said...

My cat allergy is sometimes handy for not going to people's houses or staying in a hotel instead of on someone's couch. When I don't really want to do something, I always hope, maybe they have a cat...

laura k said...

Yup, grittiest walk ever.

s1c said...

Well, here is where the game starts slowing down. Aardsma did not get the job done there.

Amy said...

My brother actually checked into those hypoallergenic cats, but there was some catch that stopped him. I don't recall what it was. Maybe they are hairless and ugly?

s1c said...

Man, you guys really have the dislikes for eck. Personally, I think he's one of those players you hate if he's on the other team, but love if he's on yours, so I of course kinda like him.

Joe Grav said...

Javier will get the job done.

laura k said...

Seriously, I don't mind Gritstein. It's how most announcers fawn on him that I don't like.

Joe Grav said...

F#!@#

Amy said...

We have always had cats, L. So you can use that as an excuse not to stay here any time you want. We won't be offended. In fact, we would rather stay in hotels ourselves, and we don't have that excuse. But we do anyway most of the time.

Shit, Pedroia almost had that. Poor kids tonight. No breaks.

laura k said...

Many ppl who are allergic to cats do better with Siamese. They are supposed to be the lower end of allergic.

But when you have bad allergies, there's no getting around it.

Amy, your brother can't have a dog that doesn't shed? There are so many nice breeds that don't.

s1c said...

MFY's still losing in duh bronx.

MDC needs to bring the good stuff.

Joe Grav said...

They aren't hairless. If I recall correctly, they are poofy and white-haired. They are probably very high maintenance.

Amy said...

I have always liked Eckstein actually. I like short players who fight the odds to get to the major leagues----like Pedroia. But the media does make quite a fuss.

laura k said...

Amy, that's so funny. We would love to stay over, honest. :)

Joe Grav said...

huge out

laura k said...

yoooook

Amy said...

My brother has considered a dog, but he lives alone and is a doctor with long hours and weekend calls. He just felt it wouldn't be fair to the dog.

When we all are together, my brother plays with our dog and cats and then sneezes and wheezes. He can't help himself.

s1c said...

double YOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUKKKKK!!!

laura k said...

Nope, your brother can't have a dog. It's good he knows that. I imagined him with a family with kids.

Rob said...

The thing I don't like about Eckstein is he makes it look like, if you're a small person, you have to have your engine red-lined every single second of your life in baseball, whereas Pedroia - same stature of a player--maybe even smaller than Eckstein, plays the game with power in the reserves. He plays at maybe 85-90% at any given moment, but knows when to turn it up to 100% and beyond.

Pedroia makes being an MLB player possible for smaller guys, whereas Eckstein makes it look almost possible. When he sprints to first base on a walk, gives the impression that he needs to do that to stay in the bigs.

Amy said...

Nice catch, Youk!

laura k said...

Amy, did you like Chuck Knoblauch?

Joe Grav said...

damnnn I hate Frank Thomas

s1c said...

That hurt

Rob said...

That doesn't bode very well for MDC. I'm hoping for big things from him this year.

Amy said...

Chuck Knoblauch? Only liked him when he forgot how to throw to first. Then I sort of felt sorry for him.

Was he small? I never had that impression.

OK, we have to get those two runs back.

allan said...

Whoa! Drew!!!!!!!!!

Boo AAArdsman.

Joe Grav said...

mehhhhh poor sox :(

bruins time. 3rd period.

Amy said...

My brother---he'd like to have the kids also. Just not in the cards.

s1c said...

Ish - I have to disagree with you about the eck running to first base on a walk, I look at that being the Pete Rose way to play the game. As for height, I believe that Pedroia is taller.

MDC almost got the job done. Tough situation he faced there.

laura k said...

Knoblauch - small, yes.

Amy said...

Redsock being very concise with the summary there!

How about boo Stairs and Thomas?

Buck Coats. Now that's a great name for a ballplayer. Very catchy.

Jere said...

Is at least Andy still listening? Can there not be one person here who can and wants to hear me yap?

s1c said...

Whoa, ocoC is in the game for LBJ?
Is LBJ hurt?

Amy said...

Sorry, Jere, I'm not the only watching the game in the room. Plus the lack of synchronization is distracting.

Tek up.

Amy said...

What did happen to LBJ? Is Terry just trying to get some energy going or something?

laura k said...

Jays announcers haven't even mentioned it! (I think.)

Rob said...

GOAL BRUINS 2-0!!!!!

Joe Grav said...

kessel goal! 2-0 bruins!

Amy said...

We've got three more out to score two runs. No problem.

Right?

Amy said...

Maybe if you guys were focused on the baseball game, we wouldn't be losing. Your sending all your positive energy to the Bruins instead.

laura k said...

Oo Amy, glad you said that and not me.

Amy said...

You're

Hate that no editing thing.

Joe Grav said...

Well, I doubt the Bruins or the Red Sox can get my 'energy,' but the B's need it more right now. The Red Sox have more talent than the Bruins + the B's season is almost over. :)

Rob said...

Maybe if you guys were focused on the baseball game, we wouldn't be losing. Your sending all your positive energy to the Bruins instead.

True. But this is game 81 of 82 for the Bruins, and game 5 of 162 for the Red Sox.

Amy said...

Pedroia is having one hell of a rough night.

Joe Grav said...

besides, you have no idea how much love i have to spread around =)

laura k said...

He really is.

Jere said...

GO WHOEVER'S PLAYING THE SHITTY HOCKEY TEAM!!!!!!

s1c said...

Maybe if you guys were focused on the baseball game, we wouldn't be losing. Your sending all your positive energy to the Bruins instead

Its a big night for the bruins. Actually its a big weekend for boston sports. BU in the Frozen Four, the B's about to make the Playoffs, the Celtics about to cinch the best record in basketball and another ring ceremony at fenway on tuesday.

Fragging Jays.

Amy said...

Well, I don't really believe in that energy stuff. Just trying to give you guys a hard time.

Like I said, I have no interest in hockey, so only THIS game matters to me.

Joe Grav said...

If I had positive energy, I would give it to myself and play the lottery :-p

laura k said...

Everyone in TO can focus on the Jays. No hockey here. :)

laura k said...

Oh god, not college sports too! SPARE US, PLEASE.

Joe Grav said...

ummm s1c please take that back right now. BU is going nowhere. BC is in the Frozen Four. holla

laura k said...

No more posts about college sports. I mean it. They won't go through.

BASEBALL please!

Joe Grav said...

well, you have the mod power, so you determine that, silly :p

s1c said...

Whoops, I thought it was BU, my bad!!!

s1c said...

Well this game has just gone from bad to worst. Fragging Jays

laura k said...

Yeah, but I don't like to abuse that power. It's supposed to be to keep away trolls, not control your conversation.

Uh-oh, that means I'm abusing it right now.

OK, my bad.

Amy said...

This game was more fun when no one was getting hits.

I hate that rug. I think the Sox are having trouble fielding balls on the rug.

Joe Grav said...

I forgive you, I know you didnt mean it. :) We're all friends here right

Joe Grav said...

6-3 :o(

laura k said...

Well, this will be their last sold-out game of the season. After this (if they win) it's all downhill.

Joe Grav said...

Haha it's okay L, we know you have the balancing act to deal with. I can promise you that very soon, baseball will be the only thing on the agenda.

That's what you get for letting this place turn into a social club - off topic conversation ;)

Amy said...

Just curious how many troll posts you have encountered tonight. I often wonder how many posts actually get screened out.

laura k said...

I'm the worst off-topic offender. But there is no off-topic in game threads.

Amy said...

Hmm, three runs. Anything can happen.

laura k said...

Tonight? None. We probably won't see trolls til the first Yankees series.

It varies. There are lots of nights with no trolls. And some nights where you really have to look carefully before putting comments through, because they're crawling all over.

Joe Grav said...

so much for our positive energy, it's 2-1 now.

s1c said...

Good news is the MFY's are now losing 9-4. Bad news is the Sox are three outs away from the first loss by the Bullpen. Not like last year when the pen lost their first game in May (4th?).

Need the bats to come out swinging and we need Tim to boil some spinach.

Amy said...

That's interesting. I guess it is still worth moderating comments anyway, but it seems like a lot of work for little reason in these kind of games. Why bother? Can't you turn it on once a troll appears?

One out already? Oh well.

laura k said...

I'd prefer patience to come out swinging. Yook - one pitch, one out.

Amy said...

Where IS Tim?

laura k said...

Tim is hearing music in a club.

Amy said...

Manny toying with our emotions getting a hit with two out.

At least the rug got to TO that time.

Joe Grav said...

well, worst case scenario, 3-2 is a good pace for the season, I think it's a 97 win pace . We're still coming back, though.

laura k said...

It's not a lot of work to mod. It's not worth it to turn mod'ing off and on all the time. You'd have to monitor everything anyway, so you might as well just leave it on.

But in any case, it's not up to me.

allan said...

Manny: ALIVE!

Amy said...

Hockey, music, work---just where are these guys' priorities?

s1c said...

I didn't realize that Hinske went to the Rays. Scantily clad lady on the field.

Drat that no showing idiots on the field thing.

laura k said...

I know you're kidding Amy, but I hate when people say that to me, re priorities. Even when they're joking, I hate it.

s1c said...

Hockey, music, work---just where are these guys' priorities?

Fortunately, its an afternoon game for the Sox tommorrow. Otherwise, well, its Final Four time.

C'mon Doctor!!!

Amy said...

Taking a long time to remove the scantily clad fan.

How many periods in a hockey game? Four? (Sorry, Laura, just trying to figure out how much longer we will be hearing about hockey.)

allan said...

Lowell: DEAD!

Amy said...

Yeah, it was definitely joking. You hate it why?

OK, game over. Oh well.

s1c said...

Fragging Jays, oh well, better times ahead!!! Time to go take the shower and go to work.

The girl with the crazy father that no one wants to date. I just love that commercial

Joe Grav said...

Well, thankfully, we can finally say 'we lost, but we have another one tomorrow.' We're into the 'real season' now :)

allan said...

3 periods in hockey.

laura k said...

I hate it because the people who say it to me are often way less dedicated and serious fans than I am. But the day they can get to a game that I can't - my priorities are wrong. Meanwhile, they watch bits and pieces of games, watch other sports, flip channels, don't watch a game for a week.

It's just a pet peeve of mine.

allan said...

Tampa 13, Chokers 4 (8th)

Kennedy spit the bit.

Amy said...

Got it. No more priority jokes. :)

Amy said...

Going to go catch up now with the paper and the email and the visiting from Boston daughter.

Good night all!

laura k said...

I totally knew you were joking. I'm not sure these other folks are.

Good night! See you tomorrow.

It's funny when you ask your audience of zero to call in for the post-game call-in segment. All zero of them have called so far....

Just got in, heard all the 'action' on the radio...tuned in when BJs were up 3-0 and Ortiz was at the plate. I went over to Niagara Falls, NY, due to me being a moron and ordering the tickets to be shipped to my US address...went shopping etc after picking up said tickets...since the game's tomorrow and all, figured I should probably go get them...

At least I missed the powdery blue Jays uniforms...ugh, looked at a pic of Frank "rebar" Thomas hitting his double, and wow....50k ppl and those uniforms...so glad i didnt attend opening day.

Ah wells, tomorrow will be good. I can't wait for Clay's second MLB no-hitter!!!!! ;-)

must. sleep. now.

tim said...

Fuck, I heard about people running on the field during the 9th but FAN 590 didn't mention this!

tim said...

just read thru about 35% of the gamethread...then got bored....soooooooooooo tired! man.... must sleep now. but via PgUp and PgDn, lookd like a good'rn thread....ah well.

I'll be missing tomorrows thread as well, since I'll be there...alive in person and all. Going to try and make an "IMPEACH REMY" type of sigh....or at least a viral flip-sign type of thing...

I'm expecting everyone on here to at least watch one sort of TV feed of the game(Canadians...SNET/buffyvision. Americans...NESN) and post a messsage Re: if I get shown on TV. Cause if you don't...um..well... you're in BIG TROUBLE!" haha

i'm really going to sleep this time. i promise.

Rob said...

Mr. Hanky is probably thinking of buying the Rays and moving them to Topeka.

There were also apparently a couple of brawls in the 500 level.

Ah well, opening day is over now the Jays can go back to drawing 20K per night as usual.
