Red Sox Steal 6 Bases For First Time

The Red Sox had never stolen six bases in one game before last night.

A list of the seven games since 1956 in which Boston stole five bases is here.

Jacoby Ellsbury pilfered three bags -- the first Sock to do so since Jerry Remy swiped four (a club record) on June 14, 1980 -- and only the third Boston player to steal at least three in a game since 1956. Reggie Smith did it on August 29, 1967 (running in the 2nd, 4th and 20th innings).

J.D. Drew did not play last night because of vertigo he first experienced in his hotel room on Friday morning. Drew: "I had it a little bit last year, but nothing like this. ... I can stand still, but sudden movements make me dizzy." (The ProJo says Coco Crisp had vertigo earlier this season.)

Although Daisuke Matsuzaka was put on 15-day disabled list with a mild rotator cuff and deltoid muscle strain in his right shoulder, Terry Francona said the MRI showed "no structural changes".

The bullpen pitched seven scoreless innings last night. MDC: "It seemed almost like last year ... Whoever got the ball went in and got the job done." ... In this article on the Sox pen, Amalie Benjamin uses BABIP!

Kevin Youkilis's 13th inning single last night snapped an 0-for-18 streak.

Both great movies, but Grant and Kelly are my favourite gorgeous old-movie couple.

Thanks for the cred.
