G72: Red Sox 9, Reds 0

Red Sox - 122 031 000 - 9 11 1
Reds - 000 000 000 - 0 6 2
Mr. Homer B. did not disappoint.

Coco Crisp hit a two-run shot in the second. And one batter after Jacoby Ellsbury drilled a four-bagger to start the third, J.D. Drew got it on and banged a dong. Bailey threw 62 pitches in 2.1 innings and was gone after 13 batters.

Crisp drove in two more runs in the fifth. Dustin Pedroia also went deep, in the sixth.

Beckett (7-6-0-2-6, 98) was strong. David Aarsdma and Mike Timlin each threw a scoreless inning.

In the first inning, Ellsbury singled. He stole second on the first pitch to Pedroia, caught his breath on the second, and stole third on the third pitch. Neither play was close. The first theft was #32 and it set a new Red Sox rookie record.

The Marlins beat the Rays 9-3, so the East lead is back to 2.5.

***

Josh Beckett (4.22, 104 ERA+) / Homer Bailey (6.30, 70 ERA+)

Bailey - part of the All-Time Unfortunately-Named Pitching Staff than includes Bob Walk and Grant Balfour.

Manny is still out, but Lugo and Varitek are back in the lineup.

Shortened games per season, I've discovered the average is about 1 or 2. The 1949 Yankees played 10 shortened official games.

phil said...

201.

phil said...

Damn you.

Jere said...

haha...as I was waiting for my super-boring comment to come up, I'm thinking, DOn't let this be 201...but I nailed it.

Jere said...

Actually, the average amount of shortened games is higher than I said, it goes way up as you get back into pre-lights days, obviously.

poor phil, lonely there for a while. i was posting on my own blog. plus occasionally they make me work here. it's so annoying.

L-girl said...

this day is taking forever

i can't believe it's only 3:40

L-girl said...

I can't stand it anymore! I have to go out for a break. Wish I could take the game with me.

Amy said...

Wow, seems a quiet thread today? I was out doing chores, heard chunks in the car. 9-0!

redsock said...

Still working, but checking back every 5 minutes or so. Mayor time!

phil said...

Fans booing the strikeout call on Casey. Amusing.

L-girl said...

I'm back from my quick break/walk.

phil said...

11-0 MFYs. Guess they're finally making their run.

I love lots of home runs when I am out shopping. I get the video clips sent to my phone and I always say that that will be the only homer we miss. Then bam! everyone hits one.

L-girl said...

When I read Andy's comment, I thought it was Amy. And I'm thinking, Amy gets video sent to her phone? That doesn't sound very Amy-like.

And indeed it was not.

andy said...

I have a comment for Amy. I also found the Joy Nation from the igoogle home page thing. Mine is also delayed like yours.

L-girl said...

I also found the Joy Nation from the igoogle home page thing.

What does this mean?

L-girl said...

I'd like WF to preserve the shut out.

Amy said...

Thanks, Andy, it is annoying. My Globe feed on iGoogle for the Sox is also stalled at some game in APRIL.

I have JOS also on my Google Reader, but it is still annoying. MUst be a Google problem.

redsock said...

perfect spot for white toast.

L-girl said...

Now I get it.

Did you try deleting and re-adding the feed? That seems to restart it for me.

Amy said...

Laura, I thought you said you used iGoogle, but maybe I misunderstood. It's the personalized home page on Google, and you can select various feeds for your page. I found JOS by looking for Red Sox related feeds.

L-girl said...

6 more hours

phil said...

2 Ks for Timlin? Crazy.

Amy said...

I will try that. Just afraid if I delete it, I will never find it again!

L-girl said...

I do use iGoogle. I just didn't understand Andy's comment at all. When you answered, I got it.

phil said...

Water.

Amy said...

Dirty water in Ohio. (Castig said the water in the Ohio River is really dirty.)

redsock said...

we like it nice
and
we like it dirty

L-girl said...

You don't have to find it. It will find it for you.

Go to "add stuff", scroll down. You'll see "add by URL". But in the JoS URL

http://joyofsox.blogspot.com

and it will put the feed in for you.

Make sure you're in the tab that you want the feed to go in.

6 more hours of work, and no baseball to pass the time. UGH.

L-girl said...

very dirty water!

see ya tomorrow

redsock said...

there is plenty of baseball.
go get the audio of another game!

Amy said...

OK, I will do that. I'll let you know if it works. I wonder why it has gotten "clogged."

L-girl said...

better than that: 6 more hours til vacation!

(even tho we leave tues, i've declared myself on vacation as soon as i get home tonight)

redsock said...

I wonder why it has gotten "clogged."

I'd ask Dusty Baker.

phil said...

9-2 Fins.

redsock said...

2.5 GA!

andy said...

Yeah I will try the L-solution as well.

Amy said...

That seemed to work. THanks!!

Amy said...

Well, then "enjoy" the last 6 hours as best you can!

I am off to read the paper, do the puzzle, etc. Bye, all.

phil said...

FKR haven't lost yet, though they're in their last out.

phil said...

FLA - 030 003 021
FKR - 000 011 001

andy said...

thats 2.5 or 3?

redsock said...

2.5.
I thought the 9-2 score was a final. Phil wrote "fin".

phil said...

Fins, not fin.

phil said...

MFY - 003 008 02
HOU - 000 000 0

Astros are embarrassing themselves.

andy said...

Ok so when the rays lose we go to 3?

andy said...

It's always ambiguous on game day unless you already knew the standings before the games. Some news sources will update instantly and some not until next day.

phil said...

Now that the Rays have lost, it's 2.5 GA.

redsock said...

Sorry for the confusion.

Started the day 1.5 GA.

We won + Rays lost = 2.5 GA.

redsock said...

Yeah, MLB and ESPN update as games end (though you can manipulate MLB to show standings at the start of any given day).

BR does not update until the following morning.

L-girl said...

I wonder why it has gotten "clogged."

I'd ask Dusty Baker.

I thought of that too.

So it worked for Amy, let's see if it worked for Andy.

The water is dirtier than the Ohio River running through Cin City.

Griffey's agent mostly denies rumors Griffey might want to get traded to the Rays. Too bad too, because that might be the kind of aging-superstar-for-lots-of-young-talent trade that could help empty the Rays' farm system.
