Schadenfreude 63 (A Continuing Series)

Hank Steinbrenner is upset at baseball's divisional setup and how playoff teams are determined:
[I]t isn't fair. You see it this season, with plenty of people in the media pointing out that Joe Torre and the Dodgers are going to the playoffs while we're not.

This is by no means a knock on Torre - let me make that clear - but look at the division they're in. If L.A. were in the AL East, it wouldn't be in the playoff discussion. The AL East is never weak. ... What if the Yankees finish the season with more wins than the Dodgers but the Dodgers make the playoffs? Does that make the Dodgers a better team? No.
It's not fair! BOO HOO! People ain't buying yer bullshit, Hank!

After Mr. Hankee questioned the legitimacy of the St. Louis Cardinals' 2006 title when they won only 83 regular season games, the Daily News writer pointed out that the 2000 champion Yankees won only 87 games.

Four other AL teams won more regular season games that year, including Cleveland, who won 90 games and missed the playoffs entirely.

Time to hit the links, Hank!

God, I HATE when people complain that teams "don't deserve" to be in the playoffs or win the WS because other teams won more games. I hate it when Red Sox fans do it (which many have done, and plenty of it) and I hate it when Hankee does it.

^^^ Won more *regular season* games, of course.

This is the setup in every single american sports league. He would be happier as an olympic coach.

If this was the Canadian Football League, then the Yankees would be in, and they could get eliminated in the first round like this was every other year.

Can I get a Nature Boy shout, anyone?

The Schadenfreude post we've all been waiting for. It feels so sweet, doesn't it?

Have a nice winter, MFY. At least you won't choke in the first round again.

Note Hank had to look to the senior circuit to find a team with fewer wins than his who's going to the playoffs. The White Sox and MFY both have 86 at the moment, but the MFY have more losses.

It's not just the Yankees who could have made the playoffs had they been in a different division.

If the season ends today, the following teams would have a better record than the Dodgers, and NOT make the playoffs:

(Dodgers 82-75)
Yankees
Blue Jays
Twins
Brewers
Astros

Shut up, Hank. You first make the playoffs, then everyone starts at 0. Oh boo hoo. I'm a very rare species of feces that comes with a head, and I can't take it when my team doesn't make the playoffs.

I agree with L-girl - the ground rules are simple: win more games than the other guys in your division or have the best non-division-winning record.

Keep those gems coming, Hank! lol

I think its unfair that the team with the most regular season wins doesn't automatically win the world series.

In fact, I think there should be no divisions, no leagues, just 30 teams and the one team with the most wins is the champion.

That would be the most fair. And the most fun. What a happy confluence!

Unfortunately, the Mets are hogging all the back pages for the last couple of weeks. Very few cases of MFY woe and misery.

Shorter Hank:
"A playoff spot should be automatically awarded to the Yankees every single year, no matter how bad our record is."

Sometimes I think this guy cannot possibly be as moronic and clueless as he seems. Then I read shit like this and I realize that he's likely FAR DUMBER than he comes across as.

I pray he has as much influence in the Yankee organization as he claims he does.

From various SoSH poets:

The Yanks once bought titles like cattle.
Each October New York would wage battle.
But this truth's element'ry:
In the twenty-first cent'ry
They have no more rings than Seattle.

So the Yanks bade goodbye to the Toilet
With a lousy '08 team to soil it.
For the Sons of Girardi
There'll be no first-place party
Tampa Bay took that plan and did foil it.

Two hundred million
flushed down the Toilet again
LOL boo hoo

The Toilet is gone
A new one opens next spring
New ballpark, same shit

Mussina relieved
Less time spent in locker room
with naked Latinos

George will cry tonight
But will soon forget it all
Hey, tapioca!

Elimination
This is an excellent word
When paired with Yankees

Two hundred million
doesn't buy you playoff games
Must be some weird curse

So much hope was made
of Hughes, Melk, and Kennedy
Cash is no Theo

Yankees' sad lament:
Elimination Day comes
earlier each year.

No starting pitching
Aging douche bags breaking down
Not fine, not at all.

Hankenstein now thinks
playoffs are still not real fair
Why not 2 more teams?

Now that toilet's gone,
Hope Cash bolts for Seattle.
Hank can lick my scrote.

With the weak dollar
200 mil just doesn't
Seem to go as far...

If spent wisely, it
Can buy first and second place
In the AL East.

Hey Melky, Robby,
want to join my support group?
your friend, Kevin Maas

Yankee hopes are dashed
The Toilet's gonna be trashed
Roger's still an ass

Hank makes excuses
As he looks to the west coast.
Torre: "GFY"

All October long
The YES schedule reads simply
Yankeeography
