G6: Angels 5, Red Sox 4

Red Sox - 020 001 001 - 4 9 0
Angels - 003 010 01x - 5 10 2
Ian Browne has a good wrap-up.

***

Josh Beckett (1.29, 376 ERA+) / Dustin Moseley (4.50, 103 ERA+)

Jason Bay says he's surprised at how well he is hitting:
I think I probably doubled my April stats from every other April. I usually stink for whatever reason. Maybe it was the longer Spring Training [this year], but once again, we're only five games in. I wouldn't write my ticket to the April Hall of Fame just yet. It's been nice to get off to a good start. Historically, it hasn't been that good for me.
He's done better in March/April than he thinks he has:
       PA HR AVG OBP SLG
2005 97 2 .292 .351 .472
2006 110 5 .277 .445 .494
2007 105 4 .280 .362 .495
2008 117 6 .253 .385 .453
2009 20 2 .333 .500 .933
Total .277 .392 .496

Career .282 .376 .518
More power in a small sample -- 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple, 2 home runs -- but not much difference at all. I assume that his numbers for the entire month will be pretty much in line with his career norms, which are good.

One time last season I said a brawl was fun and I got accused of subverting world peace :)

I suspect I was part of that as well.

hey all.

Emma and I watching the game, my explaining to her why all the players are milling 'bout on the field. fun!

Amy said...

You didn't miss much of anything, except for Ish, Benjamin and now Tim departing for Easter celebrations.

laura k said...

I told Andy he's near Boras.

Andy: Oh shit, that's him, I've been talking to his son.

nick said...

201!

laura k said...

Well, I missed a half-inning...

Nick, yeah, that was you. I was exaggerating of course. :)

Jere said...

Stupid commercial--guys in barber shop in daytime, cheering about Sox game on TV, which is a night game.

allan said...

Tell Boras to tell Manny to check out my posts about him!

laura k said...

Jere, did you say Boras is wearing orange? Andy just said "oh shit is that really him, in the green w/sunglasses?"

laura k said...

"Tell Boras to tell Manny to check out my posts about him!"

Tell Andy to tell Boras to tell Manny...

Jere said...

he's below him in that weird dugout, in an orange sweater. to his left and down, I wouldn't think he could see him from where he is.

Jere said...

what the flyin fuck? that was crazy. good thing the ball hit Green's head.

laura k said...

I'll tell him

Jere said...

No! Hit the glove.

nick said...

oy geez! that should've been a double play.

I was surprised speier hadn't been ejected. seems he had.

Jere said...

Remy's in love with this Angels squad

Jere said...

that was a very nice shovel

Jere said...

Melky now wears Abreu's old # 53. So he actually wanted 53 all along?

laura k said...

crap

Amy said...

Terrible throw.

Amy said...

SHIT

laura k said...

crap crap

Amy said...

I can hear the Angels announcers now. "And Abreu gets his revenge on Beckett."

nick said...

fuckers. now we'll have to hear about abreau's retribution.

Amy said...

Hmm, Remy himself said the same. IDIOT

nick said...

glurgle. extra "a" too.

Jere said...

Good news: Royals tie Yanks with 2 out rally in 8th

laura k said...

I can hear the Angels announcers now. "And Abreu gets his revenge on Beckett."

Red Sox radio announcers are saying it too.

Amy said...

An Abreu lovefest on NESN

Amy said...

So did Remy, as I said. Shitheads/

Jere said...

And KC takes the lead! Fuckin fuck yeah. Now they're suddenly 3 outs away.

laura k said...

No one can resist the easy dumb comment I guess.

Amy said...

Got to go for a bit. Be back later.

Jere said...

Royals tack on another.

laura k said...

A Papingle!

laura k said...

Oh man, caught stealing?

Jere said...

that was a dumbass inning

nick said...

well that was messed up. speed aside, that was a pretty crappy steal attempt. buggered hit and run?

fakakte.

laura k said...

OB says Ortiz has 10 career steals and has been caught 4 times. Note to Papi: stay put.

Jere said...

MLBtv is a good 2 minutes behind GD. Terrible/

Jere said...

Remy noted that his lead was the same as if he was being held on. And he was out by inches, so a half step more on the lead he woulda made it.

AND THE YANKS LOSE!!! Great comeback win for KC

allan said...

Andy: "Yeah baby. I will try to lean down some more often. You know what i look like now so im sure if you see me it will jump out. I should have had a JOS hat made."

laura k said...

Andy: Tell em the kid to my right is wearing a red USC hat with a yellow bill

nick said...

That's true, jere. it was a close play. so why did he go with such a short lead?

Yanks got the royal treatment?

laura k said...

" And he was out by inches, so a half step more on the lead he woulda made it."

But if he doesn't have that half step...

Jere said...

Here's the deal--Andy is above the bar safely. But his head's off the screen, TO ME. People watching on HD might see him--if they do, he's on every pitch and need not crouch. (Nobody's telling me if they can see him--again, he's the gray shirt right above the Sox score on the bar.) If he's cut off on the top of their screens too, he can lean down like a foot, but if he goes a foot and a half, he's behind the bar.

I don't have text-message capability so I can't tell him this myself.

laura k said...

And I can't tell him b/c it's too much to type and what is he going to do about it anyway.

Jere said...

I'm not saying it wasn't a ridiculous move, I'm just saying he actually should've been safe, had his lead been normal for the situation.

laura k said...

I'm conservative when it comes to steals. If a guy is 10 and 4, I'd just as soon he never steal again.

laura k said...

Come on Lyndon...

laura k said...

ack

laura k said...

Balk - what happened? Radio guys didn't see anything.

Jere said...

Josh didn't know either, or which ump even called it.

laura k said...

Another Angels run.

Poor lonely me.

laura k said...

Of course as I type that Jere is back. :)

Amy said...

I am back also. Just have nothing to say.

laura k said...

But I'm still glad you're here. It's creepy threading alone!

Amy said...

Nice! Almost beaned the pitcher.

Amy said...

Yes, I don't like when I type and no one answers.

laura k said...

This is such a rare quiet day at work, so nice to be able to concentrate on the game.

laura k said...

OK, 2 on, 1 out. RUNS PLEASE!

Amy said...

Two on!

Easter has its advantages. But it is also quiet here (on the thread). Just us non-believers and Jews.

laura k said...

:>)

laura k said...

Allan is swamped at work and had to give up on the game.

laura k said...

YES!

Amy said...

Now that was a BAD throw.

Jere said...

we'll take that

Amy said...

Just us girls and Jere. But Jere is fixated on finding Andy!

laura k said...

intentional walque

laura k said...

redondo beach on the mound

Amy said...

Ach, poop. K/

nick said...

I'm only vaguely around. very sleepy and couldn't concentrate with the laptop and the game and the heavy eyelids, so I closed the computer for a bit.

laura k said...

In general this season I'm trying to thread less. I noticed last year baseball was becoming less relaxing for me, because I'm at the computer all day, I need a break from typing and screen. I need to just lay on the couch and watch the game more, thread less. We'll see how I do.

Jere said...

key dp

laura k said...

yes big dp

Jere said...

josh's sleeve socks also incorrectly situated, like Bay's. They're the only two so far. And I'm probably the only one who cares so far.

nick said...

you may well be the only one who cares, but I was just looking at that.

johngoldfine said...

Possible lurkers....

nick said...

it's geeks like you (I mean that positively) that key me in on those details I'd otherwise miss or just not know.

Jere said...

ha. nice.

Jere said...

oh so key k

laura k said...

I can't envision what an incorrectly situated sleeve sock looks like. Some things just don't work on radio.

Jere said...

Ooh, and Gone Daddy Gone plays....

nick said...

excellent! and the violent femmes. now let's give beckett a W.

Jere said...

ahh... well, if you look at the socks, the bottom one should point to about 4:30. But Josh and Bay have it going exactly horizontal--3:00. I see this mistake on stickers on cars and stuff--didn't think I'd see it on the uni!

laura k said...

Violent Femmes, haven't heard them in ages.

laura k said...

Now I got it! I thought you meant their actual socks, on their legs. So I was trying to figure out what part of a sock was a sleeve sock.

laura k said...

Whoa! The captain is off to a great start.

nick said...

bah.

Amy said...

Damn, I missed Tek's hit. Had to say goodbye to my daughter who is on her way back to Boston in tears....we are moving in two weeks, and the kids came home to say goodbye to the house they grew up in. We are all feeling very emotional. Hard weekend. Harder than I thought.

laura k said...

Come on LBJ, how bout an rbi?

laura k said...

Aw Amy, that's tough. Sweet too, tho. It's good there are happy memories that make everyone sad to leave.

laura k said...

Ok, nice AB.

laura k said...

ARGH!

nick said...

Those transitions can be tough. seconding Laura on the memories.

nick said...

damn the dp.

Amy said...

Yes, we have lots of good memories (and the usual amount of sad ones as well). We are lucky to be moving by choice, unlike lots of people, and we are excited about the move. But still...it's the place we raised our kids, the only place they have known as home, and for us, our home for over 25 years.

Fuck, DP.

Jere said...

mf

laura k said...

Yes, it's a mixed bag, those things. But mostly good, I think, since it's by choice. You'll have sadness, you'll say goodbye, and you'll move on.

In my dreams, I'm usually in the house I grew up in. My parents sold it when I was about your daughters' age, maybe a bit younger. But not under positive circumstances.

Jere said...

"In my dreams, I'm usually in the house I grew up in."

Me too.

laura k said...

I find that really interesting. Our subconscious is always in our childhoods in some way.

Amy said...

That's funny---just today I read something (by pure coincidence) about how in our dreams we often return to our first home. I almost never dream about the houses I lived in as a child. My house dreams are usually in some large rambling house that is nothing like any house I have lived in, and I am always lost. Wonder what Dr Freud would say about that.

Meanwhile, back to baseball... Oki and Lopez up in the bullpen.

Jere said...

My ground-level conscious is there a lot too.

laura k said...

This is funny - Andy is txting me from the game w/ q's about the game. But I don't have Allan here w/ his scorecard.

Does anyone know how many K's Beckett had?

laura k said...

"My ground-level conscious is there a lot too."

Oh, not me. But I have years on you for that.

It's not that I dream *about* the house. It's just where I am in my dreams. I can't see it, I just know that's where I am.

Jere said...

5 k

laura k said...

thx jere

allan said...

taking a short dinner break.

laura k said...

has harper gone?

allan said...

i like working weekends, but all of the off days come during the week. :<(

allan said...

no. but i have done 4 of the 33 documents. he'll likely have more later. i have been emailing with dennis and i *know* he has steam coming out of his ears.

he is going to talk to management tomorrow about his inflexible requests and habit of dumping massive amounts of work on us -- and expecting us to do it asap no matter what else we were doing before he showed up.

i was getting into a little thing with him and i swear i could hear him farting. little squeaks, like 4-5 of them. maybe he farts when he's frustrated. disgusting!

laura k said...

good work capt

Jere said...

it's about time a close play on a steal attempt went our way

allan said...

chone - dead

good thing too.

laura k said...

ugh! TYT! don't be his slave for the weekend

Jere said...

shit, Jacoby thought the wall was right there. He could've caught it

laura k said...

the ugh was for allan's work but another ugh for that triple

Jere said...

He may have hurt himself, but he had a shot

Amy said...

Yay, Tek!

I wonder what it means that I almost never dream about childhood. I am always an adult, though sometimes a younger adult than I am now.

And I really had a happy childhood so I don't think it's about that.

Good thing Tek threw that guy out or we would be two behind now.

allan said...

LBJ still learning where walls are and what he can and cannot do.

nick said...

well least the non-stolen base saved a run there.

allan said...

Lopez = Neptune Nuts

Jere said...

very nice. now let's TTL and pull away

Amy said...

OK, no runs scored. Let's score TWO.
At least.

nick said...

good.

I've been a bad parent. I've got to get emma some food.

laura k said...

"I wonder what it means that I almost never dream about childhood."

I don't either. I'm just in my childhood home.

"And I really had a happy childhood so I don't think it's about that."

I would think it's the unhappy childhood that haunts our dreams.

laura k said...

BB!

Jere said...

Jere said...

great fucking at bat drew

allan said...

Just got this:

"I host my own internet sports talk radio program over at XXX and I am interested in putting together a friendly debate between bloggers for their respective teams. One that I want to get done for sure is Yankees/Red Sox before their first series. I was wondering if you would be interested in taking part in a friendly civil debate with Mike from RiverAveBlues.com to debate the best rivalry in sports. If you are I can give you more details on how I want the debate to go...."

Maybe I should send Jere in my place.

Amy said...

OK, the other daughter is back safely in Brooklyn, but I missed how we got two on base. Can someone fill me in?

Jere said...

BeeBee

Amy said...

OK, he said third walk, so that answered my questions.

Let's not waste this!

allan said...

if he gets out of this untouched I'll purposely burn dinner.

Jere said...

we better not be the 04 yankees, each guy coming up trying to hit a home run. We needed on gd run.

laura k said...

fuck

Jere said...

screw

Amy said...

That just really sucks. If we had scored a run....

allan said...

can we go back in time and get the tek in amy's avatar? that kid could hit better than the current version of varitoast.

laura k said...

who is pitching - who gave up that hr to vlad?

laura k said...

if tek hit all season like he's hit so far, we'd be thrilled

Jere said...

nick said...

I keep almost hearing my name on tv.

I'm ready for some serious 9th inning mojo madness.

laura k said...

thx

radio guys think you can just sense these things

nick said...

I actually thought about toast and smoothies since I didn't do any real dinner preparations. Unfortunately, I also realized I didn't buy bread and have one slice left.

Jere said...

ok, 9-1-2. By the time Youk is hitting a dong, we'll be on our way to vict.

allan said...

A, could be fun if you feel like debating.

Could be, as long as it's not the usual sports radio crap/yelling. I think that blog is better than most, though. I'll ask him for more info.

Then I'll need to get some insults ready!

allan said...

jeemer i think

laura k said...

Could be, as long as it's not the usual sports radio crap/yelling.

laura k said...

Rob said...

Back for the 9th as sister and her boyfriend have gone about their merry way. Ate lots of homemade pizza and Kahlua cake. Watched the Red Sox game, the Bruins spank the Islanders and the Celtics get spanked by Yankee fan LeBron James.

Rob said...

And hoping to see a comeback here!

Amy said...

One on. None out. Wish we were just still one run down.

Amy said...

LBJ could have done that.

nick said...

flurger ba googins.

nick said...

gdmfjf. I'm ready for some real papi of old.

allan said...

let it flo!

Amy said...

Sure would like to see a Papi dong.

Amy said...

It feels like forever since we saw Ortiz hit a HR in the 9th.

allan said...

TIZZLE!

Now it's your turn, Yook.

Amy said...

No dong. But I will take it.

laura k said...

Papingle!!! 5-4 and it's up to the Sweaty One

Jere said...

It's up to Youk

nick said...

not a homerun, but I'll accept it. no pitch runner?

Amy said...

Now let's hope Youk is still our over 500 hitter.

allan said...

DI or no DI, Papi better stay put.

Amy said...

YES!!

allan said...

See you at the next game, all.

Jere said...

Stupid west coast games coming up. See you a little, anyway.

Jere said...

I did a little post featuring a screenshot of Andy, as well as visual proof of the sleeve mistakes.

Allan, you can just use the Andy shot if you want it--unless you wanna go through on mlbtv and find a better shot, but note: he had a camera covering his face most of the time. This may be the best view of him.
