G126: Red Sox 3, White Sox 2

White Sox - 100 000 010 - 2 7 0
Red Sox - 010 001 001 - 3 7 1
BIG PAPI Walkoff HR!

Wakefield was brilliant (7-6-1-1-3, 94) and David Ortiz hit two home runs! The game-winning blast was clubbed down the right field line, plenty high and deep enough, and it stayed fair -- his first walkoff dong since September 12, 2007.

Boston's other slugger -- Alex Gonzalez -- hit a solo shot in the sixth.

And Victor Martinez's night of dealing with the knuckleball was a complete non-event. It was never an issue. ... Plus, 21 of Wakefield's first 22 pitches (and 27 of 30) were strikes.

The Yankees beat the Rangers 9-2, so Boston stays 6 GB in the East. The Rangers fell 2.5 GB Boston in the Wild Card. The Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Rays 3-2 and drop Tampa 4 GB in the WC.
Example
Gavin Floyd (3.98, 118 ERA+) / Tim Wakefield (4.31, 110 ERA+)

Wakefield returns from the DL (lower back and left calf) for his first start since July 8. His pitches shall float like a butterfly while the Red Sox bats sting like a bee. A big fookin' nine-stinger stabbin' bee. Well, maybe an eight-stinger bee, since Seabass will be in there.

Brave Victor Martinez will be behind the plate:
I'm really looking forward to it. I've had a chance to catch four or five of his [bullpen sessions]. ... I'm pretty excited. ... You don't have to look pretty catching it. You just have to make sure that you catch it.
Since Wakefield's mobility in somewhat uncertain, Tito will go with strong gloves at the corners: Kotchman 1B and Yook 3B, with Tiz DHing.
Example
Also: Rangers (Holland)/Yankees (Pettitte) at 7 PM.

Finally a group I know! Of course, I remember them from 40 years ago. (Uh oh, that troll will be laughing at us senior citizens again.)

9C---maybe the sign was saying "We" Will miss you, Teddy" without the WE. Like in French where they don't use the pronoun?

Great game. Too bad I had a phone call distracting me.

WHAT JAMES SAID !!!

:)

Called L on her cell about 5 minutes after Papi's dong.

L: "Umm, I'm in the driveway. Why are you calling me?"

A: "Oh. I'll tell you when you walk in."

SoSock said...

Is L screaming out loud?

:)

Or did she just smile and say "and you expected anything else?"

Amy said...

Yes, Allan, what is the end of that story?

Amy said...

Evidence that W-L is meaningless: Wakefield did not get the W tonight.

You're saying Bard doesn't deserve a win?

(I agree with you. But Shakespeare needs accolades.)

Nothing to tell. I opened the door, Tala went out to say Hi, and I said Papi hit a walkoff about 5 minutes ago for a 3-2 win.

She was pleased, we poured some wine, and went to watch an episode of Dallas!

I am always saying how much I am impressed with VMArt. I love him so much. He is just good at baseball.

Fuckin' amazing game!

I heard about Wake's sweetness, tuned in at 2-1 Sox, saw the tie then the Bard dominance and PAPI WALKOFF!!!!!

6 GB really = 3, because we WILL sweep these fuckers in September.

Speaking of sweep, lets see one tomorrow Sox!

Fuck Penny as well. And fuck Wagner. Better not see him unless its a +/- 6 run lead. Feels like Gagne II.

It shouldn't , Gagne felt like a need when it happened , that's why we gave up better prospects.....Wagner seems like a luxury...

That's right! My guilty pleasure - my addiction. (One of.)

After we moved to Canada, I couldn't get re-runs anymore, so Allan started buying me the series on DVD as part of my b'day prez.

And now on Red Sox days off, we've been watching them together. (Allan is totally hooked.) Last night we cracked open Season 7.

Very common in English now. See it all the time.

I guess it's better than crack......

I watched that show with my Mother growing up ....I sometimes wished I was a Ewing..I liked Knots Landing a little bit better though...I'm more of a Gary Ewing guy.

I doubt it. But cheaper in the long run, I would think.

I never liked any of the others from that era - Knotts Landing, Falcon Crest, Dynasty. However, I could watch any of them once and be instantly addicted. Could and often did.

But there's only one Dallas.

I can quit anytime I want.

I'm willing to conduct a comparison.......
