G126: Red Sox 6, Mariners 3

Mariners - 001 002 000 - 3 7 1
Red Sox - 000 030 30x - 6 10 2
Lackey (8-6-3-2-10, 112) got his act together and Marco Scutaro drove in four runs.

The Yankees lost to the Blue Jays 3-2 (Jose Bautista hit two home runs and drove in all three of Toronto's runs) and the Rays beat the Angels 4-3. Boston gained a game on New York and are 5.5 GB in the East.
Example
Doug Fister / John Lackey
Scutaro, SS
Drew, RF
Martinez, C
Ortiz, DH
Beltre, 3B
Lowell, 1B
Lowrie, 2B
Nava, LF
Kalish, CF
With six weeks and 37 games to go in the regular season, Boston is 5.5 GB Tampa Bay for the wild card and 6.5 GB New York in the East.

Lackey:
I'm not going to say it's late, but it's definitely not early. These are definitely critical games.
So, could you start pitching good, please, Mr. 95 ERA+, who is also 43rd among 48 qualifying AL pitchers in WHIP (and 91st of 99 MLB pitchers)?

I'll be at the PawSox-Bisons game in Buffalo with Tim tonight -- where Hideki Okajima will be pitching an inning -- but Laura will be running the thread (if the weather cooperates).

AL East:
Yankees/Blue Jays, 7 PM
Rays/Angels, 10 PM
Example
August 23:

1909 - The Cubs steal home three times against Boston, including twice in the first inning, and beat the Braves 11-6.

1952 - Bob Elliott of the Giants is ejected for protesting a strike two call. His replacement, Bobby Hofman, is also tossed for arguing the third strike of the same at-bat.

1989 - Rick Dempsey's solo home run in the top of the 22nd inning gives the Dodgers a 1-0 win over the Expos in Montreal. (Laura and I were at this game!)
LAD - 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 1 - 1 20 1
MTL - 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 0 - 0 13 1
1992 - Andy Carter of the Clearwater Phillies defeats Scott Bakkum of the Winter Haven Red Sox 1-0 (Florida State League (A)). Neither team gets a hit in what is believed to be the first double no-hitter in the minors in 40 years. The run scores on two walks and two sacrifice bunts.

We rent a 3-bedroom house with a finished basement and a huge backyard for $1500/month, about 30 mins outside Toronto. I could rent a tiny studio in Toronto for the same price, or a 2-bedroom, depending on the nabe.

Just for old-time's sake: 201!

NO CATCH!!!!!

He did not catch that ball. Remy is PISSED.

My sister is renting a two-bedroom apartment built only a few years ago, two full bathrooms, very nice kitchen, a deck, only 15 minutes away from Charlotte for $650 a month. Here that would get you your parents basement.

laura k said...

Heh, yes. The post-flood, renovated basement, now the nicest room in the damn house. Good catch, Mrs G :)

Amy said...

Wow, Ish, we should all move to Charlotte.

laura k said...

Ish, right. Here it would get you a closet.

Kathryn said...

Don: "maybe he thought he really caught it"
They are joking about it.

My husband: "Can you imagine what the Rays announcers would be saying right now?

good outing by Lackey, now we need the bot to be the bot

In NYC I always knew people who would visit friends in Atlanta or Minneapolis or wherever, and come back raving about how low the rents were or what home they could buy there... never taking into account that they would also earn much less living in those cities.

laura k said...

Remy didn't sound pissed to me

Amy said...

We paid only a little less than that for a two bedroom in Arlington, MA, a not fancy suburb of Boston out past Cambridge, back in 1980!

Rob said...

Big, beautiful houses sell down there for around $200K.

laura k said...

Would someone like to get us an update from the PawSox game in Buffalo? I can't leave right now, as you know.

Amy said...

I guess Remy was joking. At first it sounded like he was mad.

Kathryn said...

L, your rent is more than our mortgage payment. Granted we built the house in 1992, but still.

I am not going to get uptight about Papelbon. I am not going to get uptight about Papelbon. Etc.

Friends of ours in this area just bought a small, 1950s-style house in a non-fashionable suburb - just what they wanted, with a huge yard for their dogs - for $500,000 and considered it a huge bargain.

laura k said...

OK, let's see if Amy can do it!

laura k said...

MrsG, one thing we've always known is that no mortgage payment would ever be less than our rent, in any place we've lived. In NYC, we had the miracle of rent control.

Rob said...

I'm looking at real estate listings and I saw a house with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom in Charlotte for $27,000. That's beyond my comprehension.

Amy said...

So far, so good. Not happy with a leadoff hit, but whatever.

So far.

Kathryn said...

8-4 Buffalo, botton of 7th.

laura k said...

Ish, you'd have to see that one. Like, does it have plumbing? A roof?

laura k said...

Thanks! Too bad they're losing, but I'm glad they weren't rained out.

I watch House Hunters on HGTV and am always amazed how far $500K can go in places like Tennessee and how little you can get for the same money in the Northeast or California or Toronto (Toronto is often the location of the "hunts." Maybe HGTV is based there?)

Amy said...

OK, Pap, you are making me happy.

Kathryn said...

Okajima: 2 hits, 2 run, ZERO outs.

laura k said...

That's two!

laura k said...

Oh man, Jeemer.

Rob said...

L, I'm guessing no.

THIS place must have a working bathroom!

Amy said...

Dirty water!

s1c said...

Dirty water - now get the next two and I'll be happy!!!

laura k said...

Don't drink the water!!!

Moderation going back on in 3, 2, 1...

Kathryn said...

Another win. We'll take it.

Dirty>>Clean

Kathryn said...

Thanks for running the thread, L.

laura k said...

My pleasure, MrsG, thank you for thanking me!

bottom of the screen on nesn - Scu, Scu, Scutaro (I like scoot better)!!!

Out of here!!!

Kathryn said...

I just checked the line on Oki. He threw 16 pitches: 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 out. They just took him out with men on second & third. Ugh...

SoSock said...

Nice. Love to come home to a W.

In the Who'd-a-thunk-it dept. - Allan and Tim get to see a PawSox game with Jeemer pitching the day after RamRam pitches for them. Jeemer faces 5 batters, gives up 4 hits, including a HR, and all 4 of those score. This the day after RamRam, of all people, fires a 7 inning gem and earns IL Player of the Week Honors.
As Laura noted earlier this week - "Baseball, what a crazy game"
