Playing Pepper: 2011 Red Sox

Daniel Shoptaw, founder of the Baseball Bloggers Alliance and Cardinals blogger at C70 At The Bat, sent me (and two other bloggers) five questions about the 2011 Red Sox as part of his Playing Pepper series.

Our comments are here*. My answers, in brief: It was a fantastic winter; Gonzalez > Crawford; Beckett should be better; no impact prospects this year; 102-60.

* It's discouraging to see a Sox blogger already tossing shit at J.D. Drew, even though the team had not (at the time said shit was tossed) played even one official spring training game. And then to make a sideways reference to Trot Nixon -- when the facts tell us that Drew has been far more durable in Boston than Nixon was, as well as a similar hitter, and a better fielder and smarter base-runner, ...

Yes, but doesn't he eat babies...

Do people rag on Drew because he's not a happy go lucky guy? Seriously, what more does the guy need to do?

...or just because they're gullible idiots?

Trivia question: which of these three bloggers was able to avoid words in all-captial letters and ending sentences with an ellipsis?

... and one of the few to start his blog before the Sox won a World Series. Yes, seriously, he started blogging in 1901. True story! :)

When you have guys like Mazz and Felger dumping all over Drew every chance they have and plenty of pukes taking it as truth, then it's no wonder...

I like ellipsis.

You know what I have done for years and have no idea where I got it from or if it means anything? When I want to say "about 15", I put 3 dots in a triangle shape in front of the number.

Does that symbol actually exist, and if it does, does it mean approximately, or did I make up my own little shorthand?

I use a tidle (~) for "about" when referring to numbers when writing on the board.

The triangular dots are definitely a mathematical grammar symbol, but I thought it meant "therefore" or "it follows that" in proofs and such.

I like ellipsis.

Yeah, but you don't use them instead of finishing your thoughts.

****

AFAIK, the three dots in a triangle shape mean therefore.

I use all kinds of shorthand when I take notes, but a lot of it doesn't work in typing.

Uh... that "finishing your thoughts" comment wasn't about comments here! I was talking about certain other bloggers. Carry on. Or, carry on.....................
