G110: Spiders 7, Red Sox 3

Spiders - 021 002 101 - 7 14 1
Red Sox - 200 100 000 - 3 5 1
Erik Bedard (5-7-3-0-5, 70) left the game with the score tied 3-3. Franklin Morales threw eight pitches and Cleveland led 5-3. Travis Hafner doubled to deep center on a full-count pitch and Carlos Santana belted Morales's next offering onto the roof of the camera platform in dead center. The Spiders added two runs against Andrew Miller in the seventh and ninth.

Boston took a quick lead against old friend Justin Masterson (6-5-3-1-9, 118), getting three of their five hits in the game. Jacoby Ellsbury singled, took second on Dustin Pedroia's grounder to third, and scored on Adrian Gonzalez's double off the Wall in left-center. After Kevin Youkilis struck out, David Ortiz knocked in Evil Bert with a single.

The Red Sox's other two hits were Josh Reddick's solo home run in the fourth and Ellsbury's fifth-inning single. ... Bedard retired the side in order in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, allowing his seven hits (all singles) in the second and third frames.

The Yankees beat the White Sox 7-2. The two rivals will meet tomorrow night in Boston tied for first place in the AL East, with identical records: 68-42.
Example
Justin Masterson / Erik Bedard

Bedard makes his Red Sox debut. He gave up five runs in 1.1 innings last Friday in his first start since coming off the disabled list (knee strain). Terry Francona says the Red Sox will hold him to 75-80 pitches tonight.
[People have] got to remember that this is his second start [back]. He probably should be almost still on rehab. He went a month without pitching. Whether the media, the fans, want to be patient, that's your guys' prerogative. We need to be [patient] because what we want to do is balance winning now, which is important, [with getting] this guy really locked in for what we want to do going forward.
Before Bedard went on the DL, he had a 3.00 ERA over 15 starts. He had allowed three or fewer runs in every one of his previous 12 starts (April 20 to June 27).

Masterson has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his last 11 starts (71.1 innings, 1.76 ERA). His ERA for the season is 2.56.

AL East (Red Sox 1.0 GA): Yankees/White Sox at 8 PM.

Masterson apparently threw 103 fastballs out of 104 pitches a couple starts ago against the Twins. I wonder how that would've worked out against a major league team.

Wow!

TOR - 200 000 010 120 - 6 10 0
TBR - 000 030 000 121 - 7 12 0

EB = amazing

14 game streak!

If Masterson gets shelled, I'd actually feel kind of bad. I hope the Sox win, but only by a marginal score. Or maybe Masterson only gives up 2 and then the Sox tee off on the Indians' pen. Something like that.

johngoldfine said...

2-0!

AG runs thru Bogar's stop sign. Smart baseball man.

laura k said...

I wouldn't mind if Masterson gets shelled. He's a big boy, he can take it.

Maxwell Horse said...

But what about his cute wife who bakes cookies? She might cry.

laura k said...

She'll listen to Joe Castig rave about her and she'll cheer right up.

Maxwell Horse said...

Then let the shelling commence.

what the fuckety fuck????

El Tiante's #. And if you stretch your imagination, he has a little bit of Luis' wind-up (not with with runners on). I like it!

laura k said...

Rut-roh. Le Bedard will need to atone for that.

Maxwell Horse said...

At this rate a shelling might be necessary for a win.

laura k said...

OUT! And now...

Then let the shelling commence.

LaPorta does not have Adrian's speed.

is bogar coaching 3b for clev too?

reddick strikes out twice in one AB - and still gets on first

Don: Perhaps the best thing about Justin Masterson is Meryl Masterson

and of course he mentions The Cookies!!

Four K for masterson in that inning.

A Jacobingle?

So I guess the Sox have decided to go with my idea of waiting for the Indians' bullpen to start trying. Very considerate. The Mastersons are good people.

laura k said...

Ouch

CRAP

Maxwell Horse said...

Crap. May tonight's batch of Snickerdoodles be made unpalatable with the salt of Meryl Masterson's tears.

Did papi do it again???

hard to say.
i was saying the same thing ...

Dr. Jeff said...

Allan knows what I'm talking about.

Maxwell Horse said...

That was only one of two ways Crawford was getting on first. (The 2nd way involved the Indians' infield having simultaneous fits explosive flatulence.)

allan said...

time for tek to shock the world....

Kathryn said...

We were saying the same thing, too (if we're talking about the same thing!).

why only 3 batters for aceves? has he worked a lot lately? saving him for lester's start tomorrow? odd.

laura k said...

This is annoying

laura k said...

Anyone else hear Don say Cleveland "enjoys a 6-3 victory" then immediately correct himself to "lead"? Jere always says Don gets ahead of himself...

Baserunners, please!

Crawford fails to impress me at the plate.

ellsbury wins the game with an ITP grand slam

When Ellsbury hits his 5-run grand slam walkoff, Sox fans will realize just how good he is.

don, with perhaps the most worthless comment of the year:

"wheeler's 20th home appearance"

this is nothing more than talking for its own sake. gotta have some human voice noise rather than quiet.
